Cyril is the servant to Archbishop Rhea and apprentice to the knight Shamir. Due to losing his parents at a young age and being dedicated to his job, Cyril has a very serious demeanor and often comes off as blunt and harsh.
Because of this, Cyril does not grow close to others easily. However, on the occasion that he does make a friend, he is quick to care for them dearly.
Timeline Information:
Default timeline - Pre time-skip: Cyril has been taken in by Claude (@Starstruck_Deer) and sees him as his older brother. Though he wasn't sure he was allowed to, he joined the Golden Deer class and fully intends to move to Derdriu with Claude after graduation.Note: interactions with any other pre time-skip Claudes will not take place in this timeline. They will be moved back to a canon compliant timeline instead.
Post time-skip: no major events have taken place, this timeline is canon compliant.

Backstory
When Cyril was five years old, his parents were killed in an attack by the Fódlani army. Though he survived, he was present when they died. This remains his clearest memory of his parents.
With no protections for war orphans put into place, he had no choice but to start working for the army despite being a very young child.
Cyril's role in working for the Almyran army was mostly just a helper. He cleaned up after the soldiers and helped keep supplies in order. His favorite job was looking after the wyverns and horses-- animals tended to treat him much kinder than the soldiers did.
He was never taught anything very useful. He couldn't fight and he couldn't cook. He was in charge of taking care of other people-- taking care of himself meant nothing more than doing the bare minimum to stay alive. The strength of the soldiers was a priority-- he never got proper bedding and only ate if there were enough rations left over. The soldiers often treated him roughly and rudely. He was completely dispensable to them, and he was fully aware of this.
Though he was treated so terribly in the army, it was nothing compared to the year he spent as a servant in Goneril territory. Not only was he seen as dispensable, but he was treated as though he wasn't even human. As though every terrible thing he endured was something he rightfully deserved. He ate even less than before and often slept on the streets.
When he arrived in Goneril territory, he could only speak Almyran. This, apparently, was frowned upon and he was punished when caught speaking it. With the help of older Almyran servants, he picked up the spoken language of Fódlan pretty quickly-- it was a matter of survival, after all. One of the older servants even gifted him a dagger-- one that he was reluctant to take, but ended up accepting anyway.
That same servant met an unfortunate death soon thereafter. Cyril still wonders if that servant would have survived if he hadn't taken the dagger.
He always slept with the dagger in hand. The streets were dangerous-- even though he was just a kid, people constantly tried to rob him for everything he had. They weren't happy when they found out he had nothing.
He was found by Rhea just when he had about given up-- when he thought surviving just wasn’t possible anymore. Her taking him to the monastery was the biggest show of kindness he had ever experienced. That, and the bar for his well-being was horribly low.
Quick Analysis
Having no reference for how he should be treated, Cyril is disturbingly unperturbed by his living conditions. Dealing with things like constant emotional abuse from the monks, having no room or bed of his own, never being given a proper education, and never being able to move up in the church simply because he is Almyran doesn’t seem to bother him nearly as much as it should. If anything, he only expresses shame at his lack of ability to cook or read as if the neglect he faces is something under his control. Furthermore, he thinks of himself as lesser than the people around him.
The other children around the church are all either squires or refugees, all of which are mentioned to be receiving some sort of education. Cyril is the only child being put to work in return for having a place to stay. He is also the only Almyran refugee.
He was only twelve years old when he began working at the monastery and he is already convinced his worth relies solely on what he can do for other people. He never thinks about his own wellbeing, oftentimes overworking himself and neglecting to eat or sleep at proper times.
Being sure that there is no place in the world for him other than at the monastery, Cyril keeps up this self-destructive work ethic, scared of the consequences if he doesn’t. Though he is very intelligent and good at everything he puts his hand to, he purposefully ignores his own potential. He wants to stay at the monastery. Any other future, no matter how good it may be, terrifies him-- there are so many ways living for himself could go wrong. And no matter what, he doesn’t want to end up back where he started. Even if that means throwing away his every chance at a truly happy life.

Rhea really fucked up his ability to trust people. he doesn't like to talk about herduring the battle at garreg mach, he got caught up with some demonic beasts and was terribly injured. his right lung never fully recovered-- he has trouble breathing sometimeshe follows Claude's ideals and is determined to change the world for the better no matter the costsince he's Claude's adopted little brother, post-war he becomes prince of Almyra and ends racism. he's one of the most important figures in history. you cannot stop me.
